The HP notebook that I have does not have a mic in (microphone input) 3.5mm receptacle, only a headphone (output) receptacle.
The audio input that I am attempting to record is stereo and is currently being delivered on a 3.5mm jack having three (3) connections, right, left and common. Dear Sir or Madam: I am attempting to wire an external audio source to the laptop's audio input port so the audio can be recorded by the laptop.
